E23: Tiredness
Wednesday Mar 29, 2023
Wednesday Mar 29, 2023
Super tired today so I thought it would do a short episode discussing how to push on when you’re knackered. And its ok to work at a lower rate on occasion.
You can’t be 100%, 100% of the time.

E22: The Education System is Broken
Wednesday Feb 01, 2023
Wednesday Feb 01, 2023
With the teachers strikes happening in the UK it felt the right time to do this video.
We home educate our children, but our daughter did spend 2 years at school in both primary and secondary. Coupled with employing 100s of people at various ages, abilities, and education backgrounds, I certainly have a good understanding of where the education system is broken.

E19: Change of Pace
Friday Sep 16, 2022
Friday Sep 16, 2022
It’s a sad week with the Queen passing away yesterday, and I felt it was important to take a few minutes of the episode to talk about The Queen and what she meant to me. Also what she means to our prisons, as after all they are Her Majesty’s Prisons.
I follow onto the changes in our business this week. With 3 new senior managers joining the team this has naturally shaken things up and prepared us for some big changes. It has also seen a significant change in pace across the rest of the senior team, myself included.
Still a tricky time for us as a business but the future is looking good and I’m confident in the direction we are travelling.
In next weeks episode I will be talking about where I bring value to the business, Cove Group and Fifty Mill Media.

E18: Adapting my business to the cost-of-living increase
Friday Sep 02, 2022
Friday Sep 02, 2022
After 10 days since recording my last episode, I nearly forgot what I was doing, needless to say it’s been a busy week.
As we approach the end of the summer holidays, I talk about the impact of the cost of living has had on individuals, the impact on our business, and how we are tackling this.
I also noticed that one of my team is working harder than I am, which means I need to find a new gear and up my game.

E17: Expectations
Friday Aug 26, 2022
Friday Aug 26, 2022
The past week has given me a lot to consider when it comes to expectations, not expectations I have for myself bit the expectations I have for others.
I’m exploring if its right for me to have expectations for others or by doing so I’m setting myself up for disappointment and frustration.
This makes a huge difference in how I run our businesses, each company within the group has lots of opportunities for growth and development, but should I be expecting people to seize the opportunities in the same way I would? To grow and develop? To reach their goals?

E16: Understanding your Business
Friday Aug 19, 2022
Friday Aug 19, 2022
I think every business owner needs to understand their own business, not just what it is, but how it runs at every level. That’s not saying you have to be involved in every decision and detail, but its sensible to remember the core route of what you do and experience it.
I wanted to get back to this, so I spent a couple of hours as a prison officer wandering the attraction. I spoke with customers, colleagues and looked in on some of the decisions that get made behind closed doors to see what effect they have on the ground level.
I always come back with something, a new idea, a new concept, ways of improving or just understanding some of the challenges faced day to day by our team.
The idea of doing this is to support the decision-making process and ensure we are making the right decisions for the right reasons and it benefits customers, employees and the business.
